Corrales Historical Society Speaker Series – “Stories to Bridge Cultures” – CANCELLED
March 22 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free to the Public!
On Sunday, March 22 at 2pm, come hear a fascinating talk by Mary Ellen Gonzales. She describes herself as a “culture bridger” because she is half Anglo and half Hispanic and can trace her New Mexico ancestry back to 1630. In essence, New Mexico’s history is her personal family history.
Mary Ellen was raised on a sheep ranch, which she still owns, near Chama. She considers herself fortunate to have sat at the feet of a “Keeper of Ancient Wisdom,” learning truths and cultural values through stories handed down from generation to generation–Hispanic stories she likes to explore and put into cultural and historical context. She says, “storytelling is a gift that demands expression.” Mary Ellen’s presentation promises to be expressive and full of cultural bits of wisdom about life in New Mexico… and bridging cultures.
She challenges audiences of all ages to think about why things happen the way they do and how they feel about it. She brings sparkle, energy and charm to groups from elementary schools to libraries and museums. This presentation of the Corrales Historical Society 2020 Speaker Series is co-sponsored by the New Mexico Humanities Council.
